I don't recall either!

Your eloquent expressions remind me of the fears that abounded in the 60s and 70s surrounding the threat of nuclear war and the destruction of humanity. That is still possible but feels more distant. Not sure why, esp with the current wars. AI threat I suspect is less understandable by as many people as war might be. We have been fed a diet of films and news for decades. We 'know' what war looks

like. AI however.... is a new thing. Deep fakes, drone attacks. We recognise that from the science fiction film Canon from the last 70 years. How can it ever be as true as bombs and mushroom clouds etc? So humanity bumbles on. And I suspect most feel powerless to change either the threat of war or AI and so give it less mind than what they might eat as a next meal. If more people have it more attention would that alter the trajectory of change? Time for me to get up and prepare some lunch.

I really appreciate this post. No two personal journeys on this issue are identical, but much of yours is familiar to me.

(Found via LessWrong link post but I wanted to come here to thank you.)
